Blog Post Number 4 for The Book Thief

1) As an adaption for the book, I would do what the author already has done. By this I mean I would make this book a movie because the audience can really grasp the hardships a little girl had to overcome, for example, The Holocaust and being separated from her mother at such a young age. Also I think it is cool to have Death as a narrator, giving it more of a creepy, ominous tone to it.

2) In the adaption I would definitely cut out some descriptions she gives and some useless information. I find in the book that there is a lot of not needed information, that kind of makes it feel like Liesel or you could say the author of the book, is just talking to fill space. I think I would definitely use the iconic scene where Liesel is burying her brother and steals her first book. The reason being, because I feel this sets the tone for the book and what this character is all about, not only that but I feel that it creates a vivid image of how she got to where she ends up.

3) I would keep the cast of the movie the same, all of them fit the description that you would think. When you think of two German kids, you think of blonde hair, well at least I do. All of the characters look believable in the fact that they are true to their character in the book.

4) For the soundtrack I would mostly use sad songs, the reason being because it had a sad story to it. It is taken place during the Holocaust and is narrated by death, I don't know how much sadder it can get. I would use the artists like Coldplay and U2 because they make meaningful music that would make the audience reflect on what is happening.

5) One thing unique about my book, I would say is the narrator. I think this is the most interesting part because I have never encountered a "grim reaper" as a narrator in my reading experience. It gives a whole new outlook on life and how fragile it is, which I think Markus Zusak was trying to portray, especially with the time being during World War II.
