A book is a refrigerator. The reason I say this is because a
refrigerator is full of things you want to eat and a book is full of things you
want to imagine. I think that a book is something people go to when they are
bored and they bring you into another world. Books can make you think of
things, you never thought you would think of. I think that people think of
books as boring, only because they don’t read the ones that are right for them,
or have a bad experience with a book because of school or having to take a
bunch of notes on it. I think people have the right to think about books how
they want, books can range on a spectrum of importance for different people. In
my opinion I can only enjoy a book when it is a physical copy. I like the feel
of the book and having something to hold and feel while I am reading. I don’t
like reading on an iPad or iPhone because it just doesn’t feel right, there’s
something about holding a book that feels right. I think a book is still a book
even when it is on an electronic device. You’re still reading the same content
and it’s still the same author, it’s just in a different form. Nowadays a lot
of people just go to the refrigerator and eat because they are bored, I think a
book has the same concept because you can go to a book when you are bored and
read. Also the refrigerator may have something you like in it or it may not
have something you like in it, just like in a book you have to search for what
you like and pick it out.
I agree with this extended metaphor completely; much like my refrigerator, I am always opening my book. I am always looking for what else is in there to feed my mind. I open it, hungry, search around for a few minutes, and find an issue: there's not enough food; the food isn't satisfying enough; the food isn't what I want it to be. So I close the door. I walk away from my book like I do from my fridge, disappointed. But just like my refrigerator I always come back a few minutes later to search again, to make sure I didn't miss anything. No matter how satisfying a book is, it always leaves you hungry for more.
